TRIPOLI'S ARAB Patrol claims the distinction of being
the oldest of all Units in the Temple. It was organized by the
then Potentate, Thomas H. Adams, in 1909 and has enjoyed
continuous existence ever since.
Since its inception, the Patrol has made numerous trips to
Imperial Sessions, Great Lakes Shrine Assn. Sessions, and to
special Shrine, civic, or community events. Its exhibition drills
have carried the fame of Tripoli and the Patrol across the
country. Trips within Wisconsin have increased interest in
Masonry and Shrinedom throughout the state.
The Patrol went to Portland, Ore. for the 46th Session of
the Imperial Council in 1920 and stole the show in the evening
parade when the Patrol appeared in full dress suits and top
hats. (It was that Imperial Session where the resolution estab-
ing the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children was unanimously adopted.)
The Patrolmen still make special appearances in their
tails and toppers as the "Broadway Johnnies" in evening
parades.
Regular drill periods of the Arab Patrol are held at the
Mosque on Monday nights throughout the active season and
regular attendance is required. Newer members of the Patrol
form a Rookie Squad and learn the Unit's intricate maneuvers
as preparation for taking their place in the regular marching
unit.
But all is not work. The Arab Patrol is justly noted ior its
social events, as well as its precision drills and parades.
